THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
This work is based on studies by linguists such as Maurizzio Gnerre and Pierre Bourdieu, who explore language as an instrument of power and social exclusion. Its main objective is to identify words, terms, and expressions in English that carry inappropriate connotations and contribute to the exclusion of certain groups in the field of technology. Based on this identification, the project aims to create an online glossary offering inclusive alternatives to these terms, promoting a more welcoming and conscious use of language.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
- Data Collection: Gather data on the percentage of women and Black women in technology courses at CEFET-MG, Divinópolis campus.
- Identification of Terms: Map and identify terms and expressions with biased and exclusionary connotations commonly used in the field of technology.
- Research for Inclusive Alternatives: Find language alternatives that are more inclusive, considering the impact of these words on different identities.
- Development of the Online Glossary: Create an accessible digital glossary that provides problematization of terms, their definitions, usage examples, and suggestions for more inclusive alternatives.
- Awareness and Dissemination: Promote the glossary among the academic community and technology professionals, encouraging the use of more inclusive language.
Thus, this project aims not only to address issues of inclusion and diversity in language but also to foster practical changes in the vocabulary of the IT sector. By contributing to an inclusive glossary, it is expected to promote a more equal and welcoming environment in technology, encouraging reflection and awareness of the impact of words on workplace dynamics and social relationships.
